GoogleTranslateLinks 1 We are avid solar cookers and developers for decades in Lesotho. Recently, I built a proto-type parabolic trough system and my wife, who is a Lesotho national, is using it to operate a steady cottage bread and pastry baking business. The device can bake 25-40, 1000g loaves (depending on the season) in a day (and even a bit more on a perfect day). It also does pastries beautifully. Some video footage is available on You Tube if you search Lesotho and find Bethel Business and Community Development Centre. The solar bread baker works so well, that we invested in a 20 liter dough mixer, which also operates off our house’s PV system. :<gallery widths="300" spacing="small"hideaddbutton="true"> Parabolic_trough_Ivan_Yaholnitsky_2008.JPG|The T-188 Parabolic trough cooker bakes 5 loaves of bread at one time Baked_bread_Ivan_Yaholnitsky_2008.jpg|Loaves of bread are ready to be distributed (Photos: Ivan Yaholnitsky) </gallery> ==HeadingNews== *NewJan23January 2023: New cooker design - Ivan Yaholnitsky has combined aspects of evacuated tube cookers with trough reflector cookers, which he calls the Solarsoft Mark 1. The tube is nicely protected and the reflector is also protected from the wind and other possible damage. It looks like it is fairly easily fabricated. *April 2008: Ivan Yaholnitsky has built a proto-type parabolic trough system that he is using to operate a steady cottage bread and pastry baking business.
