Almost 15 years ago, I decided to fulfill my dream of living in a place with palm trees and thatched huts with dirt floors, and I packed up the Toyota 4-Runner with my youngest son, Bryan (10 years old at the time), our dog, Bru and all our camping gear and left Calgary, Alberta for "someplace" in Guatemala. It didn't take long for us to discover this hidden paradise. The day of our arrival in El Remate, I met Enrique, a doctor from Guatemala City, and we immediately realized that we both had the same idea for social development here in the village. Within a month we had opened the first free community clinic and the rest is history.
News and recent developments[]
- November 2011: Anne reports they have had two recent solar oven building workshops. By building their own cookers, women living in the remote jungle areas, limited in funds, will have a way to take advantage of solar cooking technology.
