Border Partners was created by Polly and Peter Edmunds, and is committed to improving the lives of low-income people living on the USA and Mexican border, along southern New Mexico and northern Chihuahua, Mexico. Fighting poverty and empowering the working poor by fostering the development of small worker-owned businesses and providing technical assistance, access to tools/equipment and access to financing; promoting the use of low-cost, sustainable and appropriate technologies that save energy, water and other scarce resources.
News[]
- March 2010: Because jobs and resources are scarce, Border Partners utilizes alternative technologies to boost the area's standard of living. Desert sun is plentiful in the region, so last spring Edmunds began teaching the public middle school students how to use solar cookers."One of my students really got into solar energy. He began experimenting: cooking and heating lots of stuff," explains Edmunds. "He suggested that the school should have solar cookers, so the students could heat their lunches. Thus was born the solar hot lunch idea." More info.
