David Stein is a former Peace Corps volunteer, having spent most of that time in the late nineties in the Republic of Vanuatu, a Pacific island nation located in the South Pacific Ocean. He was involved primarily with teaching construction skills and appropriate technology.
From 2008 -2015 is was a team leader at GreenTech, a for-profit social enterprise that provides improved energy services products to rural Vanuatu. Besides the distribution of improved energy services products, they focus on the creation of jobs and wealth in rural Vanuatu. He was a 2011 recipient of the National ENERGY GLOBE Award Vanuatu for his efforts to package a small low-cost PV panel, light, and battery to over 7000 rural households.
Since that time, he has concentrated on developing successful market-based strategies to find solutions to the problems of improving access to modern energy services, which he would like to apply to help promote solar cooking. He decided in 2017 to become a volunteer for Solar Cookers International, to find a way to more fully incorporate solar cooking with the mission of Peace Corps volunteers.
