EG-Solar recently released a photo of cooking with a parabolic solar cooker.

EG-Solar, a prominent worldwide solar cooking program, has its headquarters in the small southern German town of Altötting. Centered in a national industrial school, founders Dieter Seifert and his wife Imma Seifert, with the assistance of other family members and friends, registered EG-Solar as a charitable organization in 1993, though their activities date back to the early 1980s.

The organization has been very active in promoting parabolic cookers of varying size and characteristics, literally around the world. Their strategy is based on the underlying assumption that people can assist themselves by constructing the cookers. The cookers' components are manufactured in Germany and shipped with instructions that are "word free" - entirely pictorial - and thus relatively easy (though time-consuming) to assemble into the finished product. The Seiferts also make available, as needed, the equipment to produce most of the parabolic cooker's components, even in places without electricity. Because of difficulty of obtaining appropriate materials and the need for quality control, the shiny aluminum panels that constitute the parabolic reflector itself are made in Germany and shipped around the world.

The Seiferts conduct workshops in Germany on the construction and use of the devices, as well as in many other countries of the world. This Germany-based operation is among the larger, if not the largest, such program in the world. They report that 15,000 cookers have been sold in over 80 countries of the world. Among the nations where they have substantial sales programs are: Afghanistan, Ethiopia, Ghana, Haiti, Mauritania, Namibia, Nepal, Zambia, Tanzania, Zimbabwe, South Africa, and Uganda and many others.

Dieter Seifert has been active in promoting solar cooking as one way to reduce the emission of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases into the atmosphere, contributing to the greenhouse effect and global warming. He has urged the consideration of solar cooking programs as eligible for carbon credits as envisioned in the United Nations Joint Implementation/Clean Development Mechanism, that permits the exchange of "carbon credits" between developed and developing nations. One such exchange is in place between the area where Dr. Seifert lives and an organization in Nepal, where solar cooking promotion is supported in this manner. Dr. Seifert offers to provide assistance to others in calculating carbon emissions as a prelude to applying for assistance in this carbon credit scheme.

  • NEW: October 2025: Solar awareness for students - During the #ErasmusDays2025, the students of the Collège Jean Amade de Ceret in France visit EG-Solar in Germany to participate in activities specially designed for them: visits to the electricity workshops, technical skills contest, and cooking with the sun.


  • December 2024: Project Dareda/Tanzania -EG-Solar provides a comprehensive review of the solar cooker and efficient wood stoves construction classes they created in the Dareda and Mwanza regions of Tanzania.. The Vocational Technical Centre (VTC) in Dareda is the location for classes there, and the centre became the recipient of a SK14 parabolic solar cooker and a WSS improved combustion stove, made available from ped-world e.V.. Two other SK14s and stoves were sent to nearby highland areas. At the beginning of the last week of July 2023 the workshop was prepared for the course for the course, ready for the first SK14 to be made. In Tanzania, theory and practice are taught together in full-time classes. The school struggled initially with only eight participants, but the group quickly grew to nineteen. A pilot project as part of a larger church partnership project for climate protection also began in the Mwanza region of Tanzania. An evaluation is to take place after two years.   • July 2024: Introducing solar cooking at vocational schools in Burundi - An exhibition for the use solar radiation took place at the University of Technology in Gitega, Burundi on 25/7/2024. This technology was brought by an organization in the country of Spain called #Vet_to_stop deforestation. Learning these skills will be taught at three schools, the Rusi Vocational School, Gitaba Vocational School, and Christ Roi Vocational School in Gitega Province. Dieudonné Rukundo Nimubona, a Burundian who lives in Spain and is part of a group that came from that country to show and teach this technique, says that the reason they bring solar cooking technology is that there is no wood left in Burundi. Even now, the avocado and mango trees are being cut down to produce charcoal and firewood.

  • April 2024: EG-Solar sucessfully delivers 200 parabolic solar cookers to the Paktia and Paktika regions in Afghanistan from 2021-2022. This time, in addition to 50 solar cookers for the Khost/Paktia region, another 50 solar cookers were to go to the Paktika region, which was shaken by a strong earthquake on June 22, 2022 that killed over 1,000 people.
