The Elisa solar oven has been designed and built by Davide Milani living in Italy. The oven has the capability to increase the inside cooking volume.

It is the evolution of the Gengha Solar Oven, despite being simpler construction, it maintains very high performance, also capable of grilling the meat. It is built it with two 20 mm thick wooden boxes contained one inside the other and it maintains the characteristic of the Gengha of having a variable volume cooking chamber, which allows inserting pans up to 20 cm (7.9 in) high and has a base of 58 cm (22.9 in) by 48 cm (18.9 in).

The reflectors are made up of four plexiglass mirrors. Davide states the oven has excellent heat retention, allowing it to reach temperatures above 200 °C (392 °F) overall. The construction is very simple, just two wooden boxes, one larger and one smaller, inserted one inside the other. The smaller interior box size allows for considerable insulation between the boxes. The glazing is two layers of glass sealed at the edges to help avoid heat loss, but a single layer glass is also fine according to Davide.

  • May 2023: The Elisa solar oven was created as a simplier alternative to the Gengha Solar Oven.

  • Davide also founded the solar cooking center of Castelfranco Veneto, which offers online theoretical courses on solar cooking, support, and advice at no expense. As of May 2022, they have helped build 300 ovens, 205 are in use, and 156 are in daily use. There are five permanent collaborators, two on-call, fielding requests from new people and groups, and hoping to reach 100 solar ovens assembled by the end of the year.
