• Thursday, 18 November 2021 (9:00am-10:00am PST, 17:00-18:00GMT): Global Makers Virtual Event - The Solar Education Project, Sacramento City College's Global Studies Program and Makerspace, and several solar cooking colleagues around the world have been collaborating on a Global Maker Space project. The goal has been to facilitate a series of virtual Maker Workshops that can inspire students and others to become makers and problem solvers themselves. The first video will feature Grace Chepkemei, from Eldoret, Kenya. She will share her method for making a heat retention basket, and demonstrate how it is used to extend cooking time without fuel. • 5 October 2021: American made solar competition - The U.S. Dept. of Energy is sponsoring a a multi-part competition to spur solar manufacturing, develop innovative solar solutions and products, and create domestic jobs and opportunities through public-private partnerships. The contest is open to U.S. residents, and the final phase is still open for submittals until 5 October 2021. Much of the attention has been with photovoltaic solutions, and this last phase is structured with two tracks that focus separately on hardware and software components.
