Kurt Neubek is an architect living in Houston, Texas, USA, who has become interested in testing the efficiency of solar cookers. He has developed several experiments to test the efficacy of various styles of solar reflectors and their material make up. Also, he has looked at different approaches to cooking chamber insulation in solar cookers.

  • May 2025: CONSOLFOOD2025 presentation - In in Marseille, France at CONSOLFOOD2025, Kurt Neubek presented, "Solar Box Cookers: A Comprehensive Analysis of Design Components." This included:
  1. Fundamentals of How solar Box Cookers Work
  2. Kurt's Experiments on 4 Box Cookers, varying the insulation, glazing, and reflectors.
  3. Four Software Programs he wrote, with the assistance of various Artificial Intelligence programs:
    1. Reflector Analysis: 2D Interactive Reflector Simulator
    2. Simple Model for Forecasting Thermal Performance (future link)
    3. More Robust Model for Forecasting Thermal Performance (Incomplete)
    4. 3D Modeling for Reflector Analysis using Blender and a custom add-in written in Python
