Matteo Muccioli With the prototype of Newton Solar Oven 3.0

Matteo Muccioli is a Mechanical Engineer and technical consultant at Studio MUMAlab. He is the inventor of the MUMA Solar Cooker, the Newton Solar Oven , the Newton Solar Oven 2.0 and the Kimono Solar Cooker.

In 2019, together with Arch. Francesca Perazzini, he designed and built a prototype of a solar cooker dedicated to navigation, for the Maldiplastica event, who called Maldiplastica Solar Cooker

He is currently working on the development of the Kimono Solar Cooker, in its new curved geometry versions, and on innovative geometries of solar dryers.

From 2015, he has collaborated with the Associazione Astronomica del Rubicone with which he opened the SolAAR lab solar section, dedicated to the sun and solar technology and where he organizes conferences on energy and the environment, self-cnostruction workshop of solar cookers, and solar events.

His target is to design a solar oven that anyone can reproduce and use with great simplicity and promote solar cooking in his country.

  • July 2024: Testing a white surface reflector - Matteo Muccioli has designed several solar panel cookers, and began a series of tests using white reflector material to see if it can be an acceptable alternative to a mirrored surface. He compared his Kimono Solar Cooker, originally with flat glass mirror reflectors, to one with white cardboard reflectors. He found; 'The test results are extremely important: the maximum temperature reached 115 °C (239 °F), only 5°C lower than the record of 120 °C (248 °F) achieved with the Kimono Trio with White cardboard reflectors. This result is a first confirmation of the stability of the optical and thermal response of this solution, which seems very little dependent on the geometry of the oven under examination, given the same dimensions.'

  • May 2023: Kimono introduced to Ethiopia - Designer, Matteo Muccioli, working with several groups, organized an introduction to solar cooking project in Ethiopia, utilizing his Kimono Solar Cooker. He comments; "Heartfelt thanks to the Marche Polytechnic University, Debre Markos University, Arba Minch University of Ethiopia, CVM Comunità Volontari per il Mondo - Ethiopia - Ethiopia , Prof. Giovanni Di Nicola , Professor Claudia Paciarotti , Eng .Tariku Negash for the Wash-UP Project. A special thanks goes to Ing. Nicola Ulivieri who, defying the rainy season currently underway in Ethiopia, made a truly fantastic journey, without which this reportage would not have been possible. As a designer, I consider this collaboration to be one of the most important experiences of my career and the information we are obtaining is allowing us to concretely study the potential of solar ovens as an aid tool in rural areas and are making us discover non-trivial aspects that will allow us to develop new and more effective devices."
