August 1, 2009 Second Annual International Smoke-Free Solar Cookout Day! The first Saturday in August is the midsummer Saturday, so if the sun is shining, get out your cookers and cook. If possible, take your cookers to a park or town square and cook where other people can see. Let's show the world what solar cookers can do! Locations of special community events last year included Moscow, Idaho; Wichita, Kansas; and Corvallis, Oregon (if you know of a celebration that isn't listed here, please add it to the holiday page linked in at the bottom of this announcement). How many cookers can we light up the world with on the first of August this year? (Due to the way weather and climate work, there is no opportunity for an effective solar cookout for the whole world on one day. Hopefully the equatorial regions and the southern tier will decide to have a similar holiday during their best cooking seasons.)
