The SoLAAR Flower with designer Matteo Magnani

The SoLAAR Flower is a solar box cooker, designed and built by Matteo Magnani living in Italy.

Matteo explains; It is a high-efficiency oven constructed with a food-grade aluminum cooking chamber, enclosed within poplar plywood casework. The external case remains insulated from the heat of the cooking chamber by means of wooden and cork spacers. It is equipped with 16 mirrors in total. Each row of 8 is arranged along the sides of an octagon. You can decide to use a single row of 8 mirrors or add another 8 (or even less) according to your cooking needs.

The wooden case has a large rear door to allow easy loading of dishes into the chamber. Inside the cooking chamber there is a support surface in black food-grade steel that is able to rotate, allowing it to always remain level in any inclination of the oven with respect to the sun. The cooking chamber has 3 small vents in food-grade steel to allow the condensation to escape, creating natural air recirculation.

After only 20 minutes of exposure to full sun, the oven reached a temperature of 200 °C (392 °F). In early testing, the maximum recorded temperature was 250 °C (482 °F). The front wheels of the frame allow easy movement of the oven despite its size.
