Currently, other commercial solar thermal systems exist to produce steam. What sets SolarSteam apart, is their system is designed to also work in cold climates. Equipment can be designed to work alongside customer's existing boilers providing supplemental renewable heat or be designed as a standalone system. Components are modular to easily match production demands.

Like many solar cookers which employ greenhouse enclosures to help retain the cooking heat, SolarSteam employs this strategy at a larger scale. Their technology is currently used to cook the hops for a brewery in Canada.
