SunOK, based in Portugal, was founded at the end of 2008 in order to provide decentralized energy solutions. Providing cooking solutions that use energy sources off-grid is a primary goal of the organization.
The main driver of the company is the thought that, for a successful mass adoption of solar cookers, these need to be attractive and desirable.
To that end, they have first re-introduced the Sun Cook, a solar box cooker. The optics of the reflectors are technically advanced, following the work of Prof. Manuel Collares Pereira (PhD in optics, from Chicago University), and the construction components are quite sturdy, incorporating recycled materials.
Later, in 2017, they launched the Suntaste, a solar oven based on the same concept of the Sun Cook with internal parabolic mirrors, but using cork as the main material and improving several other features, such as adopting a friction hinge for one-handed operation, and using a backdoor to access the inside.
Sales have been growing steadily, with the yearly volume attaining 4-digits in 2022, and a widespread geographical reach covering Europe, North America and Oceania.
