The formation of the Sunrise CSP company was the result of an evolutionary process of finding a more efficient way of using the sun's energy at scale. The Chairman & Managing Director of Sunrise CSP India is Deepak Gadhia, a pioneer in harnessing institutional scale solar thermal steam generating systems. His earlier projects include roof-top Scheffler Community Kitchens at a number of temples in India. These temples typically serve a daily meal to thousands of pilgrims with solar power. After switching, the older wood-fueled boilers at the temples are only used occasionally for back-up power.
The Sunrise CSP team, with locations in India and Australia, concluded that these institutional scale multi-collector systems could be simplified by employing a single large solar parabolic concentrator to create steam energy and solar-to-electric solutions. They call their system Big Dish. The company wishes to use this approach to pursue business opportunities on a global scale, with current projects as of 2023 in India, Brazil, South Africa, Australia, China, and Cyprus.

The Muni Seva Ashram in Gujarat, India, will house the world’s largest Solar Concentrator with game changing technology. It requires only one-third of the space taken by Scheffler Dishes but provides double the efficiency of the latter. Along with domestic needs such as cooking, air-conditioning, laundry; the Big Dish will also be used for sterilization purposes and a heat storage system in the form of pressurized water to provide steam for 1-2 hours during non-sunshine hours.
