Sunstore Technologies is located in Edinburgh, United Kingdom. They have developed a thermo-electric solar oven, which uses the sun's rays to cook during the day, while also generating enough electricity to run 50 LED lamps or charge 100 smart phones. They claim the cooker is capable of cooking 25 kg (55 lbs) of rice (or equivalent) every 4 hours, and food will stay hot for up to 14 hours. Also, it can distill/desalinate up to 50 liters (13 gal.) of water per daily cycle.

The Sunstore range employ a large diameter inverted Fresnel lens to concentrate the suns rays into a high power energy beam that is reflected onto an absolute black absorber matrix. This technique can deliver up to 6kWh as useful heat into an insulated thermal metal core over the course of one days solar gain. Heat losses (conductive/convective/radiant) are minimized using high temperature insulation and a borosilicate glass plate encased in a ribbed polypropylene two piece chamber.
