Is the tracking system really worth the extra cost of the oven? I mean you can leave a solar cooker up to one hour unattended by forwarding the position to the sun's path. René Bijloo - ACCESO
That is a good question. This is a concentrator solar cooker with a huge Fresnel lens. Sun tracking is needed in order to better concentrate sunlight, specially in early morning and late evening. Concentrated sunlight makes it easier to achieve high temperature, to cook under the shade, to automate the solar cooking process, and to store thermal energy. The collected energy can be used in a solar oven, a stove, a BBQ smoker,a rotisserie, a food dehydrator, a water distiller, a mini clothes dryer, a heater, a cooler, and many other interchangeable devices. It is hard to have so many applications without sun tracking. CaliforniaSunlight 00:23, January 25, 2012 (UTC)
Thanx for the kind reply and explanation. So how do you store the heat? What is the material you use or do you convert to electricity? And is this oven not working directly with the sun? Sorry for not understanding well. saludos, René Bijloo . ACCESO
The oven is working directly with the sun. Converting to electricity is optional. During the time it is not cooking, the heat may be stored. We have been testing different materials and have not found a very good one. Maybe different applications need different thermal storage materials. Please email me if you need more information or if you have any suggestion. Thanks. ___Bing. 69.226.73.142 00:04, January 26, 2012 (UTC)
