Solar Cooking

Natalia Blackburn has provided an updated of her work of quantifying energy savings of solar cookers in U.S. households. She presented portable logger equipment and techniques used to actually measure kitchen energy savings at SCI Regional Convention - North America 2015. More info at USA_Solar_Survey.

Natalia Blackburn has more than 20 years of experience as a registered mechanical engineer in California and Nevada, USA. During that time she has designed everything (it seems) from residences to universities, project managing the heating, ventilating, and air-conditioning; plumbing; fire protection; and electrical system designs.

Natalia and her family live in an earth sheltered home which they built in the mid 1980s. They have a PG&E bill of $40 per month. She has been actively interested in energy efficiency and sustainability for many years and has been a volunteer for Solar Cookers International for about 10 years. She solar cooks in the summer on her CooKit and HotPot, and finds that it is less hassle than an indoor stove and that it "makes the best rice we have ever eaten."
